New State Laws

AAA New York State is an association whose membership includes all five New York AAA Clubs. The Association's principal mission is to act collectively on behalf of the Clubs to promote traffic safety and advocate for our 2.6 million AAA members  in the legislative,  administrative and public policy areas.

                 Driver Improvement Program

The AAA Driver Improvement Program is a New York State certified six-hour defensive driving course that earns the principal operator of a motor vehicle up to a 10 percent discount on collision, liability and no-fault insurance. This discount is good for three years, which can be extended by re-taking the course.

Completion of the course also entitles the participant to a reduction of up to four points on their New York State Driver's License. The course can be taken again after 18 months to reduce any subsequent points they might accrue.

If an individual originally took the course for savings on their insurance and later received violation points, they do not have to wait 18 months to take the course to reduce these new points.

The course is offered by most of the AAA clubs throughout the state. Contact your local club for the time, location and cost of this class.

Access your local club's website for more information.
